O título do post é o mesmo de um livro de autoria de Alasdair MacIntyre, publicado pela Routledge.
Eu tenho o livro há algum tempo. Cheguei a utilizar parte dele na minha dissertação do mestrado - o capítulo "Luther, Machiavelli, Hobbes, and Spinoza". Aliás, há passagens fantásticas nesta parte do livro.
Mas, agora, eu estou lendo outro capítulo, que trata da Ética em Aristóteles, comentando obviamente a Ética a Nicômaco. Mas há referências, também, à Política.
Como meu alvo é um estudo filosófico da "felicidade", chamou minha atenção logo o começo do capítulo:
"And the work which is called the Politics is presented as the sequel to the Ethics. Both are concerned with the PRACTICAL SCIENCE OF HAPPINESS in which we study what happiness is, what activities it consists in, and how to become happy. The Ethics shows us what form and style of life are necessary to heppiness, the Politics what particular form of constitution, what set of institutions, are necessary to make this form of life possible and to safeguard it".
